Newport Beach is full of diverse things to do and the Hyatt is within a mile of the airport (free shuttle available) and just off the freeway. We are also only 4 miles from Fashion Island, 5 miles from Balboa Island and 15 miles from Disneyland. There is plenty to do before and after the Workshop!
Registration is now open. Deadline to register is March 10, 2020. No late registrations will be accepted. Early bird special pricing is available on all registrations if registration AND payment are received by March 1, 2020. No exceptions. You can register and pay two ways. You can download the registration form and submit it with your check to CALAFCO, or register and pay online.
The program this year is one of the best with something for everyone.
We begin with a special pre-Workshop CALAFCO University course on Tuesday, March 24 from 1 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Join us for Building on the basics of LAFCo: LAFCo 101 + Brown Act/Public Records Act + Clerking 101. Registration and payment for this CALAFCO U session is not a part of the Workshop registration, although you can receive a special registration discount if you have a full Workshop registration. For more information, download the registration form and program agenda. You can complete the form and return with your check payment, or register and pay online.
The Workshop preliminary program is now available. General sessions include the realities of a contentious LAFCo hearing (with quite a cast of characters), website accessibility requirements, the growing issue of out of area service agreements and a CALAFCO organizational and legislative update. Breakout sessions include topics like LAFCo & Grand Juries, records retention & archiving, cities and districts financial health indicators, the affects of AB5, the intricacies of forming a CSD, Rev & Tax Code 99, facilitating conflict resolution for agencies, what it takes to process a project and CEQA/EIR & LAFCo as the responsible agency. Full program details including our speaker lineup will be coming soon. The program also includes a legal counsel, clerk and staff roundtable, a Wednesday night welcome reception featuring The Bounty of Your County, and our special Thursday lunch and dinner.
Our hosts have planned a unique Mobile Workshop: "It's a shore thing: Navigating municipal service delivery within coastal areas". We begin with a harbor cruise that highlights various projects involving multi-agency collaboration. After a 2-hour boat tour, we will travel to Marina Park Community Center where we will have lunch and hear from a panel of local agency representatives on their challenges to collaborate in support of providing efficient and effective services to coastal residents. Registration includes the board tour and lunch. For details, download the Mobile Workshop announcement. Deadline to register is March 10, 2020. The mobile workshop is sponsored in part by Imperial LAFCo and Davey's Locker.
We will be at the newly remodeled Hyatt Regency Newport Beach John Wayne Airport. Special workshop rate is $175/night. Special workshop rates are available 3 days pre and post workshop based on availability. Room rate includes in room wifi and parking and excludes taxes and fees. Reserve your room by calling 800-233-1234 and mentioning CALAFCO Workshop, or reserve your room online here. Hotel reservation cutoff date is February 24, 2020. No rooms can be guaranteed at the special rate after that date.
A Workshop sponsorship is a great chance to have direct contact with LAFCo staff as well as visibly support their professional education and development. CALAFCO is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and there may also be tax benefits for your sponsorship. To learn more about the sponsorships available, download the Sponsorship Packet.
